TIP Academic Advising
Academic advisors are professionals who help guide you through your degree plan and are dedicated to helping you succeed in college. During your time at TIP, your TIP advisor will guide and assist you as you navigate your undergraduate career until you meet your entry-level requirements. TIP Advisors take into consideration your abilities, personal commitments, interests and life goals when providing academic advising.
Advisors can answer questions and assist with:
Degree planning
Course selection
Claiming AP, IB, or Dual Credit
Changing your major or adding a minor/certificate
Providing academic and non-academic resources
You must meet with your TIP advisor at least once a semester to clear your advising hold and ensure that you are on track to complete your degree.
Your TIP advisor can answer any of your quick questions or concerns by email (always include your UT EID in email correspondence). For a more involved conversation, make an appointment to meet in-person or virtually.
How is TIP advising different from other advising centers?
- TIP Advisors support you until you meet entry-level requirements (approximately two years).
- TIP Advisors have smaller case loads than other academic advisors. This allows them to provide more individual attention to their students.
- Academic advising is incorporated into the TIP First-Year seminar (NSC 108) coursework. Students receive weekly academic advising assistance during the class in the Fall.
- TIP students start preparation for gradation early by completing Graduation Plans in their second semester.
- TIP students have access to Peer Academic Advisors (PAA), student advisors who can answer basic advising questions when TIP advisors are unavailable.
